WHAT WE DO

OUR
SERVICES

Transmission Service

Your transmission needs servicing and maintenance to ensure longevity, and avoid transmission problems. We provide a multi-check inspection of your transmission as a part of our service. You need to get your transmission fluid checked periodically to avoid any premature wear or damage to the transmission. The primary aspect of transmission service is to flush out the old fluid and replace it with fresh fluid. Our manual transmissions service includes draining out the old fluid and filling it with the manufacturer’s recommended type and quantity of new fluid. We also provide automatic transmission filter replacement to ensure the system is properly lubricated and free from debris.

Transmission Rebuilding

A transmission, just like the engine, is made up of several interrelated mechanical parts that wear out eventually with time and usage. Rebuilding a transmission is about replacing these worn-out parts without replacing them with a whole new transmission. It involves refurbishing only specific parts to restore the transmission to its peak operating efficiency and is suitable when you cannot afford a new transmission. A transmission rebuilding process includes removing the transmission from your vehicle and dismantling it. It is then thoroughly cleaned using chemicals and then run through a washer. The seals, gaskets, and other worn-out components are replaced with new ones and all the parts are examined. After performing the necessary electrical repairs, the rebuilt transmission is re-installed in your vehicle.

CVT Transmission Repair & Rebuild

If you are experiencing signs such as shifting, slipping, shaking, power loss, etc., and think that your CVT transmission needs diagnosis, Wilf’s transmission is the place you need to visit. CVT transmissions use pulleys instead of gears; that is connected to the transmission to control power output and speed. The belt between the pulleys allows them to adjust their ratio as per road conditions. Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) is commonly used in small cars, offers better fuel economy and a smoother driving experience. While the design may be simpler than traditional automatic transmissions, CVTs bring a whole new set of requirements to the technician. At Wilf’s transmission, our technicians are experienced with CVTs and no matter which model you drive, they can diagnose and repair it the right way.

Clutch replacement & Flywheel Servicing

A clutch will wear out eventually with usage and time, irrespective of the type of transmission you drive. When the clutch starts slipping, grinding, jerking, or gives long shift times; it’s a sign that they need replacement. The need for replacement depends on the extent of wear and tear it has gone through, but you must consider changing them every 3 years for optimal performance.
At Wilf Transmission, we start with a diagnosis to make sure the clutch is the problem and not the transmission. If it’s worn out beyond repair, we go ahead with replacing it. You can feel your clutch needs a change when you have to press it down harder or feels stuck while releasing. We always perform an inspection and test drive the vehicle to know for sure it’s a clutch issue and then do the needful. We also provide flywheel resurface and servicing which includes inspection, cleaning, seal polish, gear cleaning and deburring.

Big fan of these guys. Brought my 1977 Mercedes collector car to have the transmission rebuilt almost a year ago. Randomly just the other day while crawling along in lions gate traffic… The auto transmission got stuck in first gear. Brought the car back to Wilfs and in less than two days, the problem was diagnosed and fixed completely free of charge and under warranty. These guys put their customers first… it’s a refreshing experience. I’ll never go anywhere else for transmission work. A+

I’m a courier so I’ve had plenty of experience with mechanics and the fine gentlemen at wilfs are by far the best, I have dealt with. They are beyond kind, generous and fast and they back up there work 100%.
There isn’t enough good things that can be said about them. They set a high standard that can’t be beat.

Its wonderful to find a business with good old-fashioned honesty. I had a potential problem with my transmission and was referred to Wilf’s. Brought the car in, discussed the problem and left it. A few hours later, had a call that they had not been able to find the problem, that it was probably not the transmission and I could pick up the car. Wilf told me of all the steps they had taken in trying to diagnose the problem, including several phone calls to other experts. In the end, Wilf refused to charge for all their efforts. In an industry full of scammers and incompetents, it was great to find good honest service. I will definitely back with my next problem

FAQ

FREQUENTLY
ASKED QUESTIONS

Do manual transmissions use transmission fluid?

Transmission fluid is a term used for automatic transmission fluid. However, a manual transmission may use automatic transmission fluid, manual transmission oil, hypoid gear oil, or even regular motor oil. Our technicians can help you better understand which is more suitable for your vehicle.

How often do I need to replace transmission fluid?

It depends on the type of transmission your vehicle uses. Automatic transmissions generate more heat and need to flush the contaminants periodically. Your owner’s manual specifies how often you need to replace the fluid.

How do I know that my car needs a transmission repair?

There are many warning signs such as transmission slipping, noises from the engine, rough gear shifts, and more. Do read our blog which talks about the indications of a failing transmission in detail.

How much does a transmission repair cost?

It mostly depends on the circumstances and extent of the damage. A basic repair could cost around $150, and a replacement of the transmission could cost you around $2500. You should get your transmission fluid inspected regularly to avoid serious damage.

Are manual transmissions better than automatic ones?

A manual transmission requires more effort and it is suitable for drivers who like to have more control over their vehicle. There are some advantages such as they cost less than the automatic ones, and even offer better fuel economy.

Which service is more difficult- manual or automatic?

Automatic transmissions are more complex than manual ones, as they are engineered to automate most of the work. This makes their service and repairs complex and tricky. Manual transmission repairs and servicing are simpler in this sense.

Do manual transmissions need more service as compared to automatic transmissions?

A manual transmission may need a little less service than an automatic transmission. But there are a number of factors that affect the lifespan and determine how much service a transmission needs; such as type of vehicle, driving habits, conditions, etc.

How often do I get my transmission serviced?

You should get it serviced at least once a year to keep the transmission in good condition. Do check the blog about how you can prevent any major damage to your transmission.
